Background:     

Dr. William J. Martin is an internationally recognized expert in asthma, lung disease, and environmental impacts on human health.  Before joining the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Dr. Martin served as Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati and President of the American Thoracic Society.  The author of well over one hundred peer reviewed publications and many more abstracts and invited lectureships, Dr. Martin has been listed among the “Best Doctors” in America for the last 18 years.  He is an expert who has been highly effective working at the interface of medicine and public health, both domestically and internationally.

Green Development:  Good for Water and the Bottom Line

This conference is largely funded by a grant award from the U.S. EPA Office of Water. The joint proposal, submitted by the Kentucky Dept. for Environmental Protection and the Tennessee Dept. of Environment & Conservation, was titled "Green Building: Fostering Water Quality and Efficiency in the Southeast."  This conference is the key work product of the grant. The two agencies hope to connect with representatives of local government who manage and implement land use planning, building codes, plumbing codes, and storm water programs, as well as others involved in those areas.

Volunteers are needed to assist in our annual community wide cleanup. Participants may clean up anytime from March 1 to May 31 at any location, but are encouraged to participate on Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to noon. If participating Saturday, April 26, arrive between 8-9 a.m. at the Bristol Chamber of Commerce parking lot. Complimentary refreshments, lunch and t-shirts will be provided for participants. Bags and gloves will also be provided.
